The machine should handle the retyping — but not every task belongs to the same tool. auctionmanager selects the appropriate support depending on data protection relevance: an in-house local tool for anything involving personal data, and an AI provider of your choice for content relating to the artwork.

— THE PRINCIPLE —
First ask what kind of data is involved, then choose the tool.
Every automated task is classified according to how sensitive the data it handles is. This determines the supporting tool — either a local tool or an AI provider. This assignment is technically hard-wired and is not a setting that someone can accidentally change.
ID data is not sent to any AI service. Period. ID cards and passports are read using text recognition running on your own server (Tesseract). There is no external call — even if an AI provider is configured. Identity data and document images never leave your installation.
Local tool — for personal data
ID and document text recognition. Runs as a local program on your server, without an Internet connection and without a provider account. This keeps the most sensitive data in the auction business — identity documents required under anti-money laundering law — completely outside cloud processing.

AI provider — for object-related content
Object descriptions, translations, artist and image research — content about artworks, not people. Provider, model, access key and prompts are configured per tenant; the endpoint can be set freely, making it possible to use your own or a European service. If no provider is configured, these functions simply remain disabled.

Two functions require your decision. Recognition of handwritten bid forms and transcription of voice notes send images or audio respectively to the configured AI provider. Both may contain personal data. For these functions, you can configure an endpoint with an appropriate data processing agreement — or leave the two functions disabled. Your remaining AI usage is unaffected.

Why a print agent? For security reasons, a website cannot communicate directly with a printer on the local network. The agent connects outward to the server on its own and communicates locally with the printer — so label printing also works when the application runs in the cloud, without opening the firewall.
